Mrs. Ryan is Hubbard's Teacher of the Year!
Image of Mrs. RyanShelby joined the Hubbard staff in 2013 and has established herself as the cornerstone of vocal and instrumental music within our school community. Mrs. Ryan’s love of music is readily observed, with students and families benefitting from her passion and talents. Shelby is a supportive force and respectful advocate for the performing arts, maintaining quality vocal music/choral experiences for students while growing the Hubbard instrumental program exponentially. Through dedication and expectation, all students develop a love and appreciation for music. Students’ time with Mrs. Ryan is maximized, as they are always learning, listening to, or making music. Shelby is constantly seeking ways to improve her teaching practice. This proactive philosophy has expedited Mrs. Ryan’s professional development regarding her work with the range of K-5 students. Shelby’s mindset of always looking to improve her craft and taking actionable steps to apply her new learning serves as a radiant example for all members of our school family. Mrs. Ryan provides quality vocal and instrumental music experiences for children while honoring the reciprocal insights and learning that students provide for their teacher. Shelby not only teaches her students, she is always available to learn from them.

Shelby earned her Bachelor of Music degree from Ithica College and her Master of Music education degree from the Hartt School of Music. She is an active contributor to our school and district community, teaching Advanced Jazz Band after school every spring and accompanying students to BHS Redcoat and Hartford Wolfpack performance opportunities. Shelby also serves as a co-teacher for the Joseph Manzi Foundation Summer Band Camp as well as the Berlin Beginner Band Camp. Mrs. Ryan has served as a member of the Social Committee, the Berlin Stipend Committee, and is the AV Coordinator for Hubbard. She has supervised an after-school musical theatre class, co-facilitated Family Dance Night at Hubbard, and has volunteered her services at the PTO Pasta Supper and silent auction.

Congratulations Shelby! The Hubbard family of educators acknowledges and applauds your commendable dedication to our students, families, and school community. We are proud to have such a wonderful educator and person as our 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year!
